In accordance with the directives of the Prime Minister's Office and aligning with the instructions of the University of Tikrit's Presidency to observe a moment of silence and recite Surat Al-Fatiha for the martyrs of the Speicher massacre, the College of Education in Tuz Khurmatu organized a solemn memorial stand today, Thursday, June 11, 2026, marking the twelfth anniversary of this tragic event. The gathering was attended by the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Nihad Ali Shafiq, alongside the vice-deans, heads and coordinators of academic departments, faculty members, administrative staff, and a large assembly of students. The commemoration included a one-minute silence and the recitation of Surat Al-Fatiha to honor the innocent victims, reflecting a profound sense of loyalty and gratitude for their enduring sacrifices. This observance serves as a vital symbol for reinforcing national unity and social cohesion against terrorism and extremism, while underscoring the necessity of raising awareness among younger generations and university students to reject all forms of violence and hatred. Furthermore, it exemplifies the pivotal role of academic and educational institutions in preserving national memory and fostering values of tolerance, peace, and peaceful coexistence. This event is part of a broader series of national initiatives that the College of Education in Tuz Khurmatu is dedicated to organizing to honor the sacrifices of Iraq’s righteous martyrs, fulfilling a humanitarian and ethical obligation toward them and their families, and reaffirming that the legacy of the martyrs will permanently inspire and remain embedded in the collective conscience of the Iraqi people. Eternal peace and mercy to our righteous martyrs, glory to their sacrifices, and may God protect Iraq and its people.
