Under the patronage of the President of Tikrit University, Professor Dr. Wa'ad Mahmoud Raoof, and the supervision of the Dean of the College of Education, Tuz Khurmatu, Professor Dr. Nihad Ali Shafiq, and Assistant Dr. Sayyaf Abd Hussein, Director of the Continuous Education Center, in collaboration with the Qualification, Employment, and Follow-up Unit, the College held an awareness seminar today, Thursday, November 20, 2025, titled:
"The Scourge of Drugs and their Impact on Human Behavior"
The event took place in the Hall of the Martyrs of Tuz Khurmatu as part of the weekly anti-drug awareness activity mandated by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Presidency of Tikrit University.
The seminar was presented by Dr. Abdul Sattar Saleh Asi, Assistant Lecturer Ramadan Muhammad Qader, and Assistant Lecturer Haider Aziz Asghar. It covered several key axes, including:
- Definition and Impact of Drugs: Explaining narcotics and their destructive effects on mood, behavior, cognition, and social relationships.
- Societal Impact: Analyzing the devastating societal consequences, such as the spread of crime, poverty, and family disintegration.
- Causes and Treatment: Addressing the causes of drug addiction (e.g., social pressure, escaping problems) and methods of treatment, including psychological support, medical therapy, and rehabilitation programs.
- Prevention: Providing advice for prevention and promoting awareness among youth.
The seminar concluded by emphasizing that drugs are a scourge threatening both the individual and society, and confronting them is a shared responsibility requiring cooperation.
At the end of the seminar, the Dean and the organizers distributed awareness brochures to the students to enhance their knowledge and promote preventive behavior.
