The College of Education, Tuz Khurmatu, in collaboration with the Tuz Directorate of Narcotics and the Government Media and Communication Division at the College, held an awareness seminar titled: "Limiting Drug Abuse Among University Students."
This took place on Wednesday, 19/11/2025, at the Hall of the Martyrs of Tuz Khurmatu.
The seminar was organized as part of the weekly anti-narcotics awareness activities called for by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and in line with the directives of the Tikrit University Presidency to enhance awareness and preventative behavior among students.
The seminar began with a welcoming introduction delivered by Dr. Zainab Chalabi Mohammed from the College of Education, Tuz Khurmatu, who welcomed the attendees and emphasized the importance and gravity of the topic for the community and students.
The event was held in direct cooperation with the Director of the Tuz Directorate of Narcotics, Colonel Fadhil Zain Al-Abidin Youssef. The lecture was delivered by Commissioner Hashim Aziz Khurshid, who provided an explanation of the security agencies' efforts in combating narcotics, as well as the mechanisms for reporting and curbing their spread.
The seminar included a detailed presentation on the effects of drug abuse, covering its impact on the nervous system, leading to poor concentration and memory, in addition to psychological damages such as stress, anxiety, and depression. It also addressed the serious physical illnesses it causes, and its role in family disintegration, poor academic performance, and increased delinquent behavior.
Furthermore, the legal penalties resulting from drug abuse, possession, or promotion were clarified, which may include imprisonment and large financial fines according to the effective Iraqi laws, thus preserving the community's security and safety.
The Dean of the College, along with a number of faculty members, staff, and students, attended the seminar, which witnessed broad interaction and interest from the participants.
At the conclusion of the seminar, the delegation from the Directorate of Narcotics, in participation with the Dean of the College, distributed awareness brochures to the students and affiliates to enhance awareness and prevention within the university campus.
This activity is part of a series of awareness events that the College of Education, Tuz Khurmatu, is keen to organize to establish a safe university environment free from negative phenomena.
