Under the auspices of the President of Tikrit University, Professor Dr. Waad Mahmoud Raouf, and under the direct supervision of Professor Dr. Nihad Ali Shafiq, Dean of the College, and Assistant Professor Dr. Sayyaf Abd Hussein, Director of the Continuing Education Center, the College of Education - Tuz Khurmatu, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Center and through the efforts of Dr. Zainab Chalabi Mohammed, official of the Continuing Education Unit at the college, held a scientific course titled "Sustainable Agriculture and its Role in Achieving Food Security" from February 17 to 19, 2026, at the Tuz Khurmatu Martyrs Hall. The course featured lectures by Dr. Samar Nashat Ali, Dr. Mahdi Fadel Bahjat, and Lecturer Mohammed Hussein Aziz. The course focused on the serious challenges facing food security at both the global and Arab levels, while highlighting Iraq's struggle with soil salinity, which has affected approximately 39% of its land, forcing the country to import about 70% of its food needs. The course also reviewed "Sustainable Agriculture" as a practical and strategic solution to these crises, presenting a proposal for an ambitious national plan aimed at raising irrigation efficiency to 75% and reclaiming 2 million hectares of agricultural land to ensure a secure food future.
