A scientific seminar at the College of Education, Tuz Khurmatu: Between silence and expression – The rhetoric of silence in Arabic literature and the Holy Quran

Under the patronage of the President of Tikrit University, Professor Dr. Waad Mahmoud Raouf, and under the supervision of Professor Dr. Nihad Ali Shafiq, Dean of the College of Education/Tuz Khurmatu, in coordination with Assistant Professor Dr. Sayyaf Abd Hussein, Director of the Continuing Education Center at Tikrit University, a scientific symposium titled "Between Silence and Disclosure: The Rhetoric of Silence in Arabic Literature and the Holy Qur’an" was held at the College of Education/Tuz Khurmatu. The symposium aimed to illuminate the rhetorical and semantic dimensions of silence within Arabic literature and the Holy Qur’an, elucidating the profound meanings inherent in omission, brevity, and allusion; furthermore, it explored the impact of context on directing meaning and analyzed the dialectical relationship between disclosure and silence in constructing significance within literary and Quranic texts. The proceedings included the presentation of applied models from literary works and Quranic verses to demonstrate the aesthetics of the rhetoric of silence and its role in enriching and expanding textual interpretations. The symposium featured lectures by Dr. Mahmoud Ali Ahmed, Lecturer Wijdan Hamid Ibrahim, and Lecturer Maryam Muraia Ghaib Amin. This event is part of a series of scientific activities organized by the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Education/Tuz Khurmatu, which seek to advance academic and research movements and enhance linguistic and rhetorical studies in Arabic literature and the Holy Qur’an.
